While looking for 'symbols' for Bihar, what we most commonly see is that colossal farce made by the British in the 1700's :The Gol Ghar.
Or it's the Ashokan Pillar at Vaishali.
Or its the 'martyrs' memorial near the Patna Secretariat.
Or it's the rather recent colossal Buddha statue in Bodh Gaya.
Sher Shah Suri , a warrior Mughal emperor and the buildrer of the grand Trunk Road lies in a stately masoleum at Sasaram, built in red sandstone.
Why is it that this remarkable edifice has never featured as one of the heritage symbols of Bihar.
I visited this place a few days ago, and was impressed that it's being maintained very well.
Here's another symbol for Brand Bihar. How about using it?

This is really good; had heard about Sher Shah Suri mausoleum..but seeing it is quite something. It is exquisite Islamic architecture. In fact architecture during his reign are much more impressive than anything built during the reign of Babar or Humayun which are relatively plain and stereotypic in comparison.

It surely is a healthy candidate for Bihars symbol,as are Golghar and others; thing is how many ppl across our country would recognize it.
I agree with you. This place could earn extra money for the state if tourism department put serious thoughts. I can make out form the pic that the place is indeed well maintained which is a rare observation for the places on historical interest in India.
If we publicize it, then people will definitely recognise it.
Also, i didn't see any graffitti on its walls.
Good one frank,we need to highlight this as various level and also talk about it more often.It'll be interesting to have close look at this structure and showcase it as a legendary monument.
Had heard about it but never knew it was so impressive till I saw this picture. Indeed it is a grand mausoleum. If politicians pay attention to this than worry about renaming Patna as Azeemabad, it can change quite a few lives through the earning from tourism.
